Yet another new academic year has come round providing an occasion for welcoming our old friends who have been with us during the previous years, as also the new crop of students who have secured admission in this College. We hope that those who have left us at the end of the last semester have settled down to a comfortable life secured attractive assignments in India or elsewhere. The College wishes them all success.
We hope to make the new batch of students as comfortable as possible and also hope that they have a very pleasant stay with us during the ensuing years and leave us in due course rich in experience and knowledge.
Let me take you along on a journey during the past academic year. We have had a substantial number of rank holders in the PG courses and, as is the situation during the present days, the girls have also scored over the boys in garnering most of the higher ranks. While not wishing to denigrate the fair sex, I hope the boys among the students will take it as a challenge and secure even more ranks in the forthcoming years. Of course, the girls will have a tough time in lagging behind.
We have had an excellent library which has been digitalized and provision has also made for email, accessing a large number of periodicals published both in India and abroad. I hope the students will find these additional facilities a great help in sharpening their professional and personal abilities.
A new course viz. M.Tech (Information Technology) has been added during the previous year and a course in Civil Engineering is being added during the current year and additional seats have also been added to the PG course in Mechanical Engineering. We propose to add new value added courses for Personality Development and Languages particularly in English.
We are proud to say that we have a student population of nearly 2500 students comparable to many of the institutions which were started years before us. This reflects the confidence of parents, the faculties and the students have on us. We hope to keep the tradition attracting even more students in the years to come.
A word about the infrastructure improvements. A sewage treatment plan has been added to the facilities in the College and the work on provision of compound wall is in progress.
We also hope, by the end of the next year to provide additional floors space of 30000 sq.ft., to the facilities available at the College. You are also aware that Smart Class Rooms have been introduced and these have been put to fruitful use by the faculties and the students.
In order to avoid wastage of time in taking the attendance of a large group of students, it is proposed to introduce, at an early date the bio-metric system of attendance for students. Since more of our students start early from their home to reach the College in time,we have made it a point to insist a compulsory lunch for them in the College. For want of facilities, we are restricting this up to the second year students and hope to increase the facility to students of other semesters.
On behalf of the Management, I would also like to place on record, our appreciation for the excellent work done by the Principal and his colleagues in taking the College to new heights during the previous year. I am sure that they would continue to maintain the same standards of devotion to duty in the ensuing years as well.
However, Dr.S.Balasubramanian is leaving the institution for personal reasons. All of us would agree that he is substantially responsible for the progress made by the institution during his stay with the College. Dr.R.Varatharajan has taken over as his successor. I am sure he will be equally devoted as Dr.R.Varatharajan and take the institution to still greater heights.
Probably you know that one of our ablest members of the Faculty and Administration Sri Sundaresan, Vice Principal has left the institution on considerations of age and personal needs. We place on record our warmest thanks for the services rendered by him to the institution and wish him a healthy and a prosperous retired life.
I am glad to note that our students have been maintaining an excellent standards of discipline and attention to their academic standards. The management has recognized these by providing appropriate inducement through cash awards for superior academic performance.
We hope you would notice that the management of the College is on a continuous spree of improving existing facilities for the benefit of the students and faculty. We are sure that we will get excellent co-operation from all concerned in enhancing the reputation of the College for quality professional education.
I extend a very hearty welcome to all the students and the members of the faculty and wish all of them a happy and successful year.
